Olivier Faure, first secretary of the Socialist Party (PS), has officially declared his candidacy for the left primary for the 2027 presidential election. This announcement came just hours after his closing speech at the summer university in Blois.

Faure made his decision known during a meeting with the deputies of his group. According to sources, he is expected to officially confirm this candidacy during the 8 PM news on TF1.

The deputy from Seine-et-Marne also specified that he will reveal additional details on this occasion, which is stirring interest among political observers and the media.

In a statement to TF1, Faure expressed his desire not to allow the far right to gain access to the presidency. His candidacy announcement follows surveys indicating fluctuating support for the PS and its potential candidates.

The primary will be organized in collaboration between the PS and Place publique, reinforcing the idea of a left-wing alliance for the upcoming elections.

Faure asserted that he has an ambitious vision for the country, declaring: "I want to rebuild everything," in response to current political challenges. This statement could influence the dynamics of the upcoming elections.
