In the left primary held on Sunday, Raphaël Glucksmann was elected as the candidate for the 2027 presidential election, garnering 66.17% of the votes. His main rival, Olivier Faure, the first secretary of the Socialist Party, finished with only 14.46% of the votes, failing to qualify for the second round.

Glucksmann's victory was described as overwhelming, confirming his status as the favorite in this race to represent the social-democratic left. This result allows him to position himself as the candidate capable of uniting the left, excluding supporters of France Insoumise (LFI).

Glucksmann, who is also a Member of the European Parliament, had been seen as a candidate of change compared to the radical left, advocating for a new dynamic to counter the far-right. His victory marks a turning point for the French left. He now faces the task of uniting the various left factions, including those of Faure and Ségolène Royal, who was also eliminated in this vote.

Ségolène Royal, a former presidential candidate, faced an early defeat, just like Faure, failing to gather sufficient support among left voters. This elimination highlights the challenges faced by the traditional left in the current political landscape.

The primary organizers emphasized that turnout was significant, with over 120,000 votes cast. This vote is seen as a strong signal of support from left voters for Glucksmann's candidacy.

Beyond his victory, Glucksmann must now navigate a complex political environment as the presidential election approaches, with potential tensions within the left and the need to form alliances to counter the far-right.
