The Ombudsman has requested the national directorate of the Public Security Police to provide information and documents concerning police operations that took place in the early hours of last Sunday in Lisbon and Porto. The request was made with urgent status, according to a statement from the institution.

The police operations targeted protesters who were camping at Praça D. Pedro IV in Lisbon and Praça D. João I in Porto and were characterised as a police charge. The action occurred during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Following the early morning incidents, Monday night saw the demonstration sites in Porto and Lisbon remain calm. At Rossio, a vote was held on joining a protest scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in front of the Assembly of the Republic.
