Paris prosecutor opens investigation into tax data breach
An investigation has been launched following the theft of data from nearly 680,000 French tax users.
The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the hacking of the tax information system. This cyberattack allowed for the extraction of data belonging to taxpayers and businesses, according to announcements from the Directorate General of Public Finances.
On Friday evening, the Directorate General revealed that 678,000 individuals and professionals were affected by this malicious act. The stolen information comes from an operation described as more sophisticated than those carried out in the past.
The cyber section of the prosecutor's office is handling the investigations, which have been entrusted to the Anti-Cybercrime Office (Ofac). The tax authorities also stated that taxpayers' online accounts had not been compromised during this incident.
Tax authorities have expressed concerns regarding data security and announced the launch of a comprehensive investigation to identify those responsible for this cyberattack.
