Parliament debates and rejects proposals on rising cost of living
Today, Parliament discussed 14 initiatives to mitigate the rising cost of living, but all were rejected.

The Portuguese Parliament held a debate today on several proposals aimed at addressing the rising cost of living, including 14 initiatives put forward by different parties. The debate, requested by the Chega party, focused on solutions such as reducing VAT on fuels and food, eliminating tolls on the 25 de Abril Bridge, and a temporary 0% VAT rate for essential goods.
Despite the variety of suggestions presented, all initiatives were rejected by Parliament. The measure to reduce VAT on fuels and food, proposed by Chega, as well as a resolution from the Socialist Party (PS) on the same issue, failed to gain sufficient support.
In addition to the debate on the proposals, questions arose regarding contradictions in the documentation related to a complaint by Carlos Cabreiro. The discussion prompted mixed reactions among the parties present, but did not result in any consensus that could approve measures.

Deputies intensely discussed the impacts of the proposed measures, particularly the implications for public accounts, as indicated by the Government. Warnings about the potential need to maintain the country's financial stability were a constant theme throughout the discussions.
Similar meetings and debates have been taking place, reflecting the growing concern over the rising cost of living and inflation affecting the population. However, Parliament's proposals did not advance, highlighting the discomfort surrounding the current economic situation.
The rejection of the proposals raised questions about what alternatives could be considered in the future to address the rising cost of living while keeping the well-being of citizens in mind. This episode illustrates the complexity of the political debate surrounding such a sensitive and urgent issue.
