The Pope referred to the "difficult moment" that the Portuguese army is experiencing following the death of two soldiers on a highway. During the private audience at the Vatican, a delegation including 129 military personnel and members of the security forces was present, according to various sources.

In his remarks, the Pope evoked the parable of the Good Samaritan, using it to illustrate the tragic situation of the deceased soldiers. This notable gesture from the Pope highlights the pain and loss felt within the Portuguese armed forces and society at large.

The soldiers' deaths occurred under circumstances that have prompted national mourning, and the Pope's reaction has been interpreted as a moral support for the affected families and the soldiers' colleagues.

The visit to the Vatican and the recognition from the Pope aim to bring comfort to those in mourning, reinforcing the importance of human solidarity in times of crisis.
