According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, President Vladimir Putin has proposed meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping for a tripartite summit to discuss the conflict in Ukraine. The summit is set to take place during the ASEAN summit in China. Putin aims to achieve a solution that is favorable to Russia.

Trump has already signaled his willingness to participate in such a meeting. He stated that he is open to dialogue but does not want to focus solely on the Ukraine conflict; he also wishes to discuss topics like nuclear weapons. Trump's comments suggest he wants to keep the dialogue open, but there are conditions for his participation.

The discussions between Putin and Trump occurred after a phone call on October 9, during which Russian diesel supplies were also discussed. This phone communication laid the groundwork for Putin's proposal for the summit. Trump acknowledged the idea of a meeting, but it remains unclear how much a summit could actually lead to an agreement.

At the same time, there are reports that Trump is in contact with Zelensky, the President of Ukraine. According to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, a meeting is expected in Oslo on October 20, where Zelensky and special representatives of Trump will be present. These talks would demonstrate parallel efforts to resolve the conflict.

Some reports indicate that Trump has also criticized Zelensky, believing that other individuals should lead the negotiations. These statements reflect the pressure Trump appears to want to exert on Zelensky to accelerate potential progress in the peace process.

The situation remains tense, as the prospects for peace and negotiations continue to be uncertain. While Putin and Trump seek discussions, Zelensky's position and the forces surrounding him may be crucial in determining whether such a meeting will actually lead to progress in the negotiations.
