The Railway and Transport Union (EVG) has threatened nationwide strikes in regional transport to draw attention to the safety situation for train attendants. The warning follows the fatal attack on a conductor, who was killed during a ticket check in February. The union is demanding that the federal government take measures to make the work environment safer.

According to reports, the EVG has acknowledged dissatisfied responses from railway employees, as politicians have only generally addressed their issues since the incident, with no concrete steps taken to enhance safety. The union feels compelled to exert further pressure through threats of strikes.

The union plans to begin strikes in January, should there be no adequate response from the federal government. The demands focus on concrete measures to increase safety for train attendants, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future.
