Romanian Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant Initiates Shutdown Due to Low Water Levels
The Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant will be shut down in the next two days due to falling water levels in the Danube, with the process expected to last at least two weeks.
Romania's Cernavoda nuclear power plant has announced that it will begin the shutdown procedure within the next two days. Sorin Rândažu, the deputy general director of the Romanian Water Authority, stated that the decision was driven by the low water levels and flow of the Danube.
According to Rândažu, the shutdown is unavoidable and may take at least two weeks. The reduced water volume is also impacting hydropower generation, which is leading to an energy crisis in Romania.
