Steinmeier: Xi irritated by trilateral summit on Ukraine
Federal President Steinmeier reports Xi Jinping's irritation regarding a Ukraine trilateral summit with the US and Russia. New negotiations among the three countries are scheduled for next week.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier stated in an ARD interview before his return from China that China's head of state and party leader Xi Jinping showed no interest in a trilateral summit with the US and Russia concerning Ukraine. Steinmeier mentioned that he addressed Xi about relevant reports, to which the Chinese leader reacted with irritation.
Steinmeier detailed that Xi's irritation was clearly visible on his face. This was a notable reaction that suggests Xi is skeptical of speculation surrounding a potential summit.
In parallel, the US announced that representatives from Kyiv, Moscow, and Washington will meet for new discussions next week. These negotiations are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.

According to US Special Envoy Witkoff, the talks will take place in a trilateral format, following an exchange between the countries last February. The exact topics and goals of the upcoming negotiations have not been detailed so far.
The situation in Ukraine remains tense, and the negotiations do not seem to bring the conflict closer to a resolution. However, the US government still sees a possibility for progress through diplomatic efforts.
The events surrounding the war in Ukraine are being closely monitored by many, as an end to the conflict, after nearly five years, remains elusive. The international community is watching the developments in the negotiations attentively.
