Super Typhoon Champi is projected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on October 20, where it will be locally designated as Rosal. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), as of October 18, the typhoon was located about 2,090 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon, still outside PAR.

Although Champi has recently weakened, reports indicate that it may re-intensify back into super typhoon strength prior to its entry into the Philippine monitoring area. PAGASA's updates suggest that tropical cyclone wind signals could reach levels 3 or 4 in parts of Luzon in anticipation of this development.

The weather bureau noted that the trough or extension of Champi could begin to affect regions such as Catanduanes, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar, potentially triggering rainfall and thunderstorms as early as October 19. This impact is expected ahead of the typhoon’s full entry into PAR.

Details from PAGASA indicate that at 11 a.m. on October 19, Champi maintained strength with maximum sustained winds reaching up to 195 kilometers per hour (kph), accompanied by gusts of up to 240 kph. This situation highlights the potential severity of weather conditions as the storm approaches the Philippines.

Weather forecasts suggest that the trough associated with Champi may bring rain to many areas in Luzon and parts of Visayas around October 20, coinciding with its expected entry into PAR. The public remains advised to monitor weather updates closely as the storm develops.

The situation with Super Typhoon Champi illustrates ongoing monitoring efforts by PAGASA, reflecting the importance of preparedness in light of expected weather changes. Various sources align on the forecast for Champi to regain its super typhoon classification, underscoring the storm's potential impact on the region.
