Taiwan confirms AI-assisted cyberattack on government agencies

Taiwan has confirmed an AI-assisted cyberattack on state authorities from abroad, discovered in July.

Taiwan's Ministry of Digital Affairs has confirmed a cyberattack from abroad that was carried out using artificial intelligence. The attack, which has been classified as "unusual," targeted institutions and companies in Taiwan. According to authorities, the attack was detected in July through cyber monitoring.

Since July 20, warnings have been issued, and investigations and countermeasures have been initiated. The cyberattacks are reported to have largely operated autonomously and in a coordinated team manner, according to Der Tagesspiegel. The exact backgrounds and possible perpetrators have not yet been disclosed publicly.
