On October 17, France experienced a large-scale national mobilization against the rising cost of living, marked by violence and looting. Numerous incidents were reported in several cities, with 2,397 arrests, raising questions about the management of law enforcement during times of tension.

In the wake of these events, curfews have been announced in certain neighborhoods of Paris, particularly around Les Halles and Place de la République, set to be enforced from 11 PM to 6 AM. Additionally, bans on public demonstrations will be in place from 8 PM until 6 AM, according to announcements from the police prefecture.

Laurent Nuñez, the Interior Minister, offered his resignation to Emmanuel Macron due to criticism regarding the management of law enforcement. However, the President of the Republic rejected his resignation, emphasizing the need to maintain continuity in the command of law enforcement forces.

Emmanuel Macron also highlighted intelligence failures that led to the violence, stressing the importance of transparency regarding recent events. The handling of the crisis has generated serious concerns among the public, prompting the French to seek explanations.

In the context of the protests, students also blocked access to the Louvre museum to express their support for high school movements. This blockade resulted in the closure of the institution, which was unable to open its doors to visitors.

Since the weekend, the situation in several neighborhoods remains tense, and authorities are working to protect businesses and restore order. The recent violence and the authorities' responses will be at the forefront of discussions in the coming days as the country prepares for presidential elections in six months.
