Train accident in Spain: A Canadian among the victims
A Canadian died in the Urda train collision that resulted in 69 fatalities in Spain last Wednesday.

A train accident that occurred on Wednesday in Urda, Spain, claimed the lives of 69 people, including one Canadian, four Americans, and one French national. Authorities announced that 66 of the victims had been identified, while three individuals remain unidentified, according to multiple reports.
Among the victims are also nationals from various countries, including Japanese, Tunisians, Portuguese, Mexicans, Czechs, and Argentines, highlighting the diversity of passengers involved in the tragedy.
This marks the second tragic train accident in Spain this year. In January, another incident had already resulted in the death of 46 people in Andalusia, raising concerns about railway safety in the country.

In response to this tragedy, Spanish Transport Minister Óscar Puente announced his resignation a week after the collision. He stated that his decision was motivated by a question of political dignity due to the two tragic accidents occurring within less than a year.
The minister also indicated that he would not appear on the lists for the early legislative elections scheduled for November 29. His resignation comes amid significant political pressure and increasing concerns regarding the safety of transport infrastructure in Spain.
Investigations into the causes of the accident are ongoing, while the families of the victims are mourning in an atmosphere of shock and palpable sadness within the community.
