Users report discontinuation of abortion services at Garcia de Orta Hospital

Users from the municipalities of Seixal and Almada reported that consultations for voluntary interruptions of pregnancy (IVG) were discontinued at Garcia de Orta Hospital last Monday. Complaints were made by user committees claiming to have received information about the situation.

According to these committees, users have faced difficulties accessing services related to unwanted pregnancies, raising concerns among women seeking this type of assistance.

In response to these reports, the Local Health Unit of Almada clarified that the discontinuation is not permanent and that it is a temporary suspension of services. This statement contrasts with the complaints received by the user committees.

The hospital reiterates the need to ensure continuity of healthcare, but no specific dates for the resumption of IVG consultations have yet been provided.
