The Directorate-General for Health (DGS) announced the start of the seasonal pediatric vaccination campaign against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which will begin on September 16. This initiative aims to protect children and reduce the transmission of the virus during the time of year when its circulation intensifies.

According to the DGS, all infants will be eligible for vaccination, a measure intended to minimize the risks associated with RSV, which can cause severe respiratory infections in young children.

The vaccination campaign is expected to last until March 31, 2027, thus providing an extended period of protection for the pediatric population. The DGS hopes that participation in the campaign will be high, contributing to public health.

The vaccination process will be organized in health centers and other health units, where parents can take their children to be vaccinated. The DGS will provide additional information about logistics and specific vaccination locations as the start date approaches.

This announcement has been widely covered by various media outlets, including Observador and RTP, which highlighted the importance of vaccination in preventing respiratory illnesses in children.

The campaign raises awareness about the need for childhood vaccination and the impact of RSV on public health, reiterating the DGS's commitment to protecting the most vulnerable groups in the population.
