The health authority in Greece has reported a total of 232 confirmed cases of West Nile virus infections since the beginning of the year. Since the end of July, the number of cases has increased more than fivefold. Experts indicate that particularly the capital region is affected, with the majority of cases detected in the greater Athens area.

Additionally, there have been 19 deaths related to the virus, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Epidemiological authorities are urging the public to protect themselves from mosquito bites, as these insects are considered carriers of the virus.

The rising numbers have led to an increased awareness of the risks among the population, and experts recommend protective measures to curb the spread of the disease. Advice on avoiding mosquito bites is being increasingly disseminated to prevent direct infections.
