Rising number of West Nile virus cases in Greece
In Greece, the number of West Nile virus cases has more than doubled in a short period, particularly affecting the elderly.

According to the health authority EODY, the number of reported West Nile virus cases in Greece climbed from 42 to 110 within about two weeks. This represents more than double the increase and indicates a concerning trend in the spread of the virus.
Elderly people are particularly at risk, as reports note. By August 12, nine deaths related to the infection had been recorded, all of the deceased were over 65 years old. The rising number of cases highlights the need for preventive measures in dealing with the virus.
The increasing case numbers and the associated fatalities raise questions about the future development of the situation. Health authorities are faced with the challenge of implementing appropriate measures to control the spread of the virus. Targeted education and prevention are necessary to protect vulnerable population groups.
