Wildfire breaks out on Greek Aegean island of Skyros
A wildfire has erupted on Skyros. Firefighters are battling the blaze while a village has been evacuated.

A wildfire broke out on the Greek Aegean island of Skyros on Saturday afternoon. Firefighters have been battling the significant blaze near the coastal town of Atsitsa throughout the night, public broadcaster ERT reported on Sunday. Smoke from the fire was reportedly visible as far away as the capital Athens, 110 kilometers distant.
According to Mayor Kyriakos Antonopoulos, no settlements are at risk, only a few holiday homes. Nevertheless, the village of Pefko has been evacuated as a precaution. Firefighting efforts are ongoing.
