In 2020, a woman was fined by the Carabinieri in the province of Udine for driving while using her phone. The woman disputed the ticket, claiming that the officers mistook an object for her phone, asserting instead that it was a zucchini.
Her defense was rejected in both first and second instances. In an appeal in Trieste, the judges did not believe her version of events, upholding the validity of the fine.
