Apple unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, on Wednesday evening. The presentation took place under the motto "Surprise and shine." This new model features a foldable design with screens on both the inside and outside, reminiscent of a passport's dimensions.

The iPhone Duo will hit stores starting at €2,299, making it the most expensive iPhone model to date. Deliveries are set to begin on October 23, 2023. This marks Apple's entry into the foldable smartphone market, which has so far been dominated by manufacturers such as Samsung.

According to reports from ComputerBase, the iPhone Duo will include significant adaptations of iOS. Additionally, it will be equipped with features supporting the Apple Pencil, and the Dynamic Island from the iPhone 18 Pro (Max) will be available in a smaller version. Some sources mentioned substantial price increases for other iPhone models presented during this event.

A notable feature of the iPhone Duo is the return of Touch ID, which has been integrated into the new model. This could be a response to growing user demands for higher security standards. New Apple CEO John Ternus has expressed his ambition to establish a presence in the foldable phone market with this device.

In addition to the iPhone Duo news, the introduction of new AirPods 5 during the event is also anticipated, further heightening excitement for the presentation. The company is focusing on enhanced product diversity and innovation in its portfolio.

According to various reports, Apple may find itself in a promising positioning scenario in the foldable smartphone market following this initial presentation, in order to compete with existing market leaders.
