Belgian diver discovers 1864 bottle of Guinness at shipwreck off Dover
Stef Panis has unearthed a historic beer bottle from 1864 at a shipwreck near Dover. KU Leuven and the Irish brewery are interested in researching the beer.

Belgian diver Stef Panis has found a bottle of Guinness from 1864 in a shipwreck off the coast of Dover. This discovery was reported by the Gazet van Antwerpen. Panis discovered the wreck, which turned out to be the wooden sailing ship Mindoro, twelve years ago. The ship sank after colliding with another vessel.
Since the discovery, Panis has made regular dives to the wreck. During one of his recent dives, he found the brewery bottle from the 19th century. KU Leuven and the Irish brewery are now interested in researching the bottle, hoping to gain more information about the history and composition of the beer.
Panis plans to retrieve more bottles from the shipwreck. The research could contribute to a better understanding of brewing methods from that time.
