Body of Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi recovered from Broad Peak

Local volunteers have recovered the body of Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi from Broad Peak, according to reports from multiple sources. Sakhi was part of a 10-person expedition that went missing following an avalanche on July 30, which occurred during their ascent of the mountain.

The Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) confirmed that the body was retrieved and later transferred to the mountain's base camp. The resort area around Broad Peak, known for its challenging terrain and high altitudes, was the site of the tragic incident, which resulted in the loss of ten climbers.

The avalanche impacted a group led by renowned British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, cutting off communication with the international team. Following the event, local search efforts were initiated by volunteers from Shigar, who took it upon themselves to locate the missing climbers.

The confirmation of Sakhi's recovery comes nearly two weeks after the tragic avalanche, highlighting the dangers present in high-altitude climbing. Further details regarding the remaining climbers reported missing have not been disclosed.
