Business leaders express concerns about salary transparency law proposal
Employer confederations criticize the government's salary transparency proposal, fearing bureaucracy and additional costs.

Employer confederations in Portugal have expressed reservations regarding the draft law on salary transparency, which aims to align national legislation with the corresponding European directive. According to reports, business leaders believe the proposal could lead to an increased administrative burden and warn of potential 'perverse effects.'
The CIP – Confederation of Portuguese Industry, in a written response, emphasized that concerns are related to the temptation for legislators to implement maximum standards instead of minimum standards, which could further complicate business management.

Various organizations also reported concerns about increased bureaucracy, additional costs, and legal risks that could arise as a result of the new legislation. The confederations requested that the proposed rules be proportional and suited to the reality of the business landscape.
Business leaders fear that the implementation of the law, by requiring greater transparency regarding salaries, could lead to an increase in operational costs for companies, potentially negatively impacting their viability.
