Carneiro accuses government of profiting from fuel price increases
The leader of the PS, José Luís Carneiro, criticized the government for the fuel price hikes and submitted a VAT reduction proposal to Parliament.

The Secretary-General of the PS, José Luís Carneiro, accused the government of profiting from the increase in fuel prices. During a visit to the 12th AgroSemana in Vila do Conde, Carneiro stated that it is the government's duty to respond to the cost of living faced by citizens.
Carneiro revealed that the PS submitted a proposal to Parliament aimed at reducing VAT on both fuels and food. This proposal seeks to alleviate the financial burdens borne by the population, given the recent rise in prices.
In addition to his criticisms regarding fuel prices, Carneiro declared that the government's profits have already reached a significant amount. In statements to Observador, he indicated that the mentioned figure exceeds €1.048 billion, reflecting his dissatisfaction with the current management.

In a different context, the Minister of Justice also commented on issues related to the government, stating that the weakening of the Judiciary Police (PJ) is not the Executive's responsibility. This statement comes amid general criticisms regarding the effectiveness of institutions.
Carneiro's accusations regarding the government have been repeated on various occasions, highlighting a critical stance towards the Executive's strategy on issues that directly affect citizens. This type of statement aims to bring visibility to the PS's position on current economic matters.
The controversy surrounding fuel prices remains in focus, with the PS demanding clear answers from the government. The proposal for VAT reduction may be a response to this issue, although there has yet to be any pronouncement on its feasibility or acceptance by the Executive.
