The Constitutional Court (TC) unanimously approved a law that alters the rules for granting asylum and the return of foreigners. The decision was supported by seven of the thirteen council judges, who found the provision in accordance with the Constitution.

According to Público, the new legislation aims to facilitate the deportation of immigrants who are in an illegal situation in the country. This change in immigration policies raises questions about how the rules will be implemented in the future.

The Secretary-General of the Socialist Party (PS), José Luís Carneiro, stated that the party respects the decision of the TC, reaffirming the PS's position on legislation related to asylum and the return of foreigners.
