Minister Flávio Dino of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) annulled the decision made by his colleague André Mendonça, which had mandated the removal of publications related to Our Lady Aparecida. Dino's ruling, issued on September 27, 2026, allows for posts on social media concerning the law that designates the statue of the saint as 'patroness of Brazil'.

Mendonça's decision, which took place on the previous Friday, September 25, aimed to prevent the spread of content linking Flávio Bolsonaro, a senator and candidate for the presidency of Brazil, to an alleged bill seeking to revoke the title of patroness from Our Lady Aparecida.

Following Dino's authorization of the publications, actor and comedian Antonio Tabet reposted his content on the platform X (formerly known as Twitter), which had been removed under Mendonça's order. The content addresses a controversy involving the saint and reportedly sparked opposition reactions within Bolsonaro's campaign.

Flávio Bolsonaro's campaign expressed bewilderment at Dino's decision, considering that the lifting of the publication ban could impact the senator's candidacy. Legal advisors within the campaign voiced their concerns over the situation, which has intensified due to the current electoral context.

In response to Dino's ruling, Flávio Bolsonaro's defense filed a petition with the STF, requesting Minister Luiz Fux to suspend the effects of the decision that allowed the continuation of publications. The petition marks another chapter in the rising tension between STF ministers, particularly between Dino and Mendonça.

The discussions surrounding the matter reflect not only the political dynamics surrounding Flávio Bolsonaro's candidacy but also the cultural and social significance of Our Lady Aparecida in Brazil. The case remains under development, with potential developments anticipated in the coming weeks.
