Dodentocht remains 100 kilometers long despite heat

The Dodentocht, which starts Friday evening in Bornem, will remain at its scheduled length of 100 kilometers. This was decided during a safety meeting, despite forecasts of high temperatures during the event. Last year, the distance was shortened due to heat, but this year participants will cover the full distance.

According to meteorological reports, temperatures are expected to exceed 30 degrees in most areas on Wednesday, and will further rise on Thursday and Friday, reaching up to 35 degrees in some regions. An orange warning has been issued for these periods.

While the organization of the Dodentocht has made this decision, there is some discussion about the safety of participants given the heat. A heat plan is in place to ensure the safety of the walkers.
