Employee at Frankfurt Airport dies from malaria
An employee at Frankfurt Airport has died from malaria after being infected by an imported mosquito. Six more employees are also affected.

An employee at Frankfurt Airport has died from the effects of a malaria infection. This was confirmed by a spokesperson for the airport operator Fraport on Wednesday. The employee's death is linked to an infection caused by an imported mosquito.
As early as mid-July, Fraport reported that four employees had contracted malaria, with the infections attributed to a mosquito that had inadvertently entered Germany in luggage or on an aircraft.
A total of six employees at Frankfurt Airport have now been infected with malaria. The exact progression of the illnesses is still unclear, and the affected individuals have been provided with appropriate medical care.

Experts refer to a very rare variant of malaria known as "airport malaria." This occurs when a mosquito enters a country in connection with international travel.
Fraport has responded to the incidents and emphasized that it takes safety and health measures at the airport seriously. A comprehensive investigation into the events is underway to minimize the risk of further infections.
All affected employees have been working as part of their duties at the airport. Fraport will provide more information in the coming days to keep the public informed.
