Entry of tourists to Inca Trail at Machu Picchu suspended due to damage
Access to the Inca Trail at Machu Picchu has been suspended since August 19 due to damage caused by heavy rains.

The Culture Directorate of Cusco announced the suspension of tourist access to the Inca Trail at Machu Picchu starting Wednesday, August 19. The decision comes due to landslides and other damages reported along the route.
The heavy rains that began Monday night, August 17, have affected various sections of the pre-Hispanic path. Authorities are assessing the conditions of the trail and have begun considering alternatives for the return of visitors.
A specific date for the reopening of the Inca Trail has not yet been determined, as a safety evaluation process needs to be conducted along the route.
