On Saturday, there were renewed attacks by the pro-Iranian Houthi rebels on the Saudi capital Riyadh and other targets in the country. Reports indicate that the airports in Riyadh and Dammam were targeted, with Saudi authorities reporting at least twelve people killed and over 300 injured. The Houthis had previously announced their intention to continue attacks on Saudi infrastructure.

The attacks are set against the backdrop of an intensified confrontation between the Houthis and the Saudi-led military coalition. This coalition responded with the announcement of a "decisive response" to the attacks. The situation in the Middle East is further escalating as Saudi Arabia seeks international support.

The Houthi militia has repeatedly threatened to intensify its offensive against Saudi Arabia in the past. This threatening rhetoric comes at a time when Riyadh feels increasingly abandoned, particularly by the United States, and is searching for new allies.

In addition to the attacks on airports, energy facilities in Saudi Arabia were also targeted. This raises concerns regarding security and stability in a region already burdened by the decades-long conflict in Yemen.

Various international media outlets reported on the situation, including Global News, ORF, SRF, tagesschau.de, and Deutsche Welle. These events can be viewed as part of a larger conflict in the Middle East, which frequently takes new turns and exacerbates geopolitical tensions.

In this context, Iran has also made offers for talks to de-escalate the situation. The outcome of this offensive and potential reactions from Saudi Arabia and other international actors remain uncertain.
