The Government of Portugal has begun final negotiations with candidates interested in buying a stake in TAP, the Minister of the Presidency reported. Proposals have been made by two airlines: Air France-KLM and Lufthansa.

According to the minister, the negotiations aim to secure improved offers for the sale of 44.9% of the Portuguese airline. They will commence with the two companies that have already submitted their alternative proposals.

The scope of the sale process could bring enhancements to TAP's operational conditions, as the government seeks to ensure the future of the airline. The Portuguese government has been contacted by potential interested parties and has evaluated their respective offers.

In addition to the sale of TAP, Minister of the Presidency, Leitão Amaro, downplayed the no-confidence motion that was presented by the Chega party against the government. Reports suggest that Chega's initiative will not have a significant impact on ongoing sales.

The negotiations were publicly confirmed following a period of analysis and evaluation of the submitted proposals. These proposals were discussed during several government meetings involving the relevant oversight.

The involvement of major airlines such as Air France-KLM and Lufthansa suggests significant interest in TAP's operations, which has faced financial challenges in recent years. However, specific details of the negotiations have not yet been disclosed.
