Government begins negotiations with bidders for TAP purchase
Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, announced that the Government will negotiate individually with Lufthansa and Air France-KLM due to similarly evaluated proposals.

Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, announced on Friday that the Portuguese Government will proceed with individual negotiations with the two candidates for purchasing a minority stake in TAP, the national airline. According to the minister, the submitted proposals were assessed, and the results indicate that they are very close in terms of viability.
Leitão Amaro noted that the closeness of the proposals' evaluations necessitates additional effort for negotiations with Lufthansa and Air France-KLM. This process will be conducted in a manner that ensures the final decision is made based on detailed discussions with both competitors.
The Government opted to follow this path after analyzing the report presented by Parpública, the entity responsible for managing the privatization process. The minister emphasized that this decision represents a final negotiation phase with the two interested parties.

The estimated timeframe for concluding these negotiations is several weeks, as indicated by the minister. The intention is to ensure that, following the discussions, the Government can make an informed decision regarding the selection of the future strategic partner for TAP.
This approach reflects the importance that the Government places on choosing an appropriate candidate during a critical phase of the airline's restructuring, which currently faces significant challenges in the sector.
