Israel Claims Destruction of Hezbollah Tunnel Network in Southern Lebanon
Israel announced the destruction of a major Hezbollah tunnel network beneath the Ali al-Taher ridge, asserting its completion of a security zone in the area.

On Thursday, Israel reported the destruction of what it described as a significant Hezbollah tunnel network located beneath the Ali al-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon. The operation was confirmed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz in a joint statement, who asserted that this action marked the completion of a security zone in that region.
The Israeli military stated that the explosion triggered by the operation was powerful enough to cause tremors in the area, with reports indicating it reached a magnitude of 4.1, according to the US Geological Institute. Eyewitnesses recounted hearing several blasts and seeing large fireballs during the operation, which Israeli officials claimed targeted an extensive underground infrastructure associated with the Iran-backed militant group, Hezbollah.
In announcing the successful operation, Netanyahu labeled the underground site as a significant terrorist infrastructure that had been constructed over the span of more than 20 years. He and Katz emphasized that this development was crucial for reinforcing Israeli security in the vicinity of Lebanon's border.

Reports from Lebanon's state-run National News Agency confirmed that there was a massive explosion at the Ali al-Taher ridge, although there has been no initial confirmation from Lebanese sources regarding the destruction of the tunnel network. The explosion reportedly caused noticeable tremors in surrounding areas, raising concerns among local residents.
As the situation develops, Netanyahu and Katz indicated that Israel is prepared for further military actions against Hezbollah following this operation. The Israeli defense officials stated that the campaign against Hezbollah would continue, suggesting a proactive stance against potential threats from the group.
This latest operation comes after a week of escalating tensions in the region, with reports of increased military activity by Israeli forces, marking a significant moment in the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah.
