Juiz de Fora municipal guard begins armed operations today
The Juiz de Fora municipal guard starts its activities with firearms following an official ceremony.

The Juiz de Fora municipal guard began armed operations on Thursday, the 3rd, as announced by the City Hall. The official ceremony presenting the new firearms took place at the headquarters of Juiz de Fora City Hall (PJF) in the early afternoon.
The implementation of the use of firearms by the municipal guard was announced by Mayor Margarida Salomão in July 2025. The decision followed the sending of a letter to the Federal Police, which provided legal support for this change.
According to information from the City Hall, the aim of the initiative is to increase security in the city, although details regarding the training of the guards have not been disclosed.

The new approach fits into a context of changes in public security policies in various cities across Brazil. The municipal administration's decision has been accompanied by discussions regarding the effectiveness and necessity of arming municipal guards.
Civil society organizations have already expressed their concerns about the issue, raising alarms about potential violence associated with the use of weapons by municipal agents.
