The Municipal Water and Sanitation Services of Leiria (SMAS) announced an investment of approximately 250,000 euros for the purchase of generators. This investment aims to ensure the continuity of water supply and communications in the city, particularly in emergency situations.

The decision to acquire generators is a response to the impact of Storm Kristin, which had significant effects on local infrastructure. The new equipment is intended to minimize service disruptions for residents in future storms.

In addition to the purchase of generators, the investment will include improvements to SMAS's internal communication network. These enhancements are considered crucial for stabilizing communication and effectively coordinating operations during crises.

Storm Kristin was a major weather event that caused various disruptions to water and communication services in Leiria. This prompted a review of existing infrastructures, leading to the need for investments in more robust equipment.

The operation of purchasing and installing the new generators will be coordinated by SMAS, which will ensure that the new systems are operational before the next winter period, when storms are most likely to occur.
