The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued a yellow alert for the northern and southern coasts of Madeira, as well as for Porto Santo, due to the hot weather forecast until Wednesday. This warning is a preventive measure to alert the public about the elevated weather conditions that may affect health, particularly among vulnerable groups.

The yellow alert covers not only the coastal areas but also other parts of the region, where high temperatures are expected. The IPMA recommends special precautions, such as proper hydration and limiting sun exposure during the hottest hours of the day.

In addition to Madeira and Porto Santo, the yellow alert has been extended to four districts in the northern and central interior of Portugal. The districts of Bragança, Vila Real, Viseu, and Guarda are also under warning due to the heat, which is expected from 9:00 AM on Tuesday to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, according to Observador.

Meteorological authorities are monitoring the evolution of the weather conditions and are warning the public about the possibility of harmful health effects, requiring increased attention during the heat period.

The yellow alerts do not imply the interruption of normal activities but encourage caution. Citizens are advised to take preventive measures, such as avoiding intense physical exertion and seeking cool environments.

Weather forecasts will be closely monitored, and the IPMA may update the alerts as necessary, depending on the evolution of temperatures and atmospheric conditions in the following days.
