Petrobras announces new oil discovery off the coast of Amapá
Petrobras revealed a new deepwater oil discovery in the Equatorial Margin, off Amapá, on Friday (2).

On Friday (2), Petrobras announced a new oil discovery at the Morpho well, located off the coast of Amapá, specifically in block FZA-M-59. This area is part of the Equatorial Margin, a region in Brazil known for its potential for oil and gas exploration.
The new find was made in ultra-deep waters, at a depth of approximately 2.9 kilometers, as reported by several sources. According to information from the company, the discovery occurs at the same location as a previous find, but in a deeper section of the well.
Environmentalists have raised concerns about the risks associated with drilling in this region, particularly regarding potential oil spills and the adverse effects on local ecosystems.

Petrobras, which is Brazil's state oil company, did not provide details about the size of the reservoir or the exploration potential of this new discovery. Several sources highlighted the lack of additional information concerning the extent of the resources found.
Reactions to the discovery have been mixed, with supporters of energy exploration emphasizing the economic potential, while critics underline the need to preserve the fragile ecosystems of the Amazon and the Brazilian coast.
Furthermore, drilling off the coast of Amapá and in biodiversity-affected regions is often a subject of controversy, with the need for a balance between economic development and environmental protection.
