Starting in 2027, the funding for photovoltaic systems in Austria will be restructured. According to a statement from the Ministry of Economy, the focus will now be on energy storage, while subsidies for smaller photovoltaic systems will be discontinued.
Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer (ÖVP) emphasized that last summer's heatwave highlighted the need for additional storage capacity. The reform is intended to help alleviate pressure on the power grid.
The existing allocation practice under the "First Come First Serve" model will also be reconsidered due to the planned realignment of funding. Specific details on the implementation of the changes have not yet been disclosed.
