RKI reports 9,600 heat-related deaths in the last week of June

The Robert Koch Institute documents a high number of heat-related fatalities in Germany from June 22 to 28.

During the week of June 22 to 28, 2023, approximately 9,600 deaths attributed to extreme high temperatures were recorded, according to a statement from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). This figure represents the highest number of heat-related fatalities since 2016.

So far this year, around 12,000 heat-related deaths have been confirmed, indicating a serious impact from the current heatwave. The RKI anticipates a higher number of fatalities linked to the heatwave than previously estimated.
