Senator Pangilinan Demands Accountability for Flood Control Funds
Sen. Francis Pangilinan calls for a detailed audit of government flood control funds amid severe flooding due to the southwest monsoon.
Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan has called for a complete accounting of government funds allocated for flood control projects. This demand comes as heavy monsoon rains severely affect numerous communities across the Philippines.
Pangilinan emphasized the importance of transparency, stating that every Filipino has the right to know where the allocated funds have been spent. He highlighted the recent disruption caused by floods linked to the enhanced southwest monsoon, known locally as "habagat."
In addition to the accounting of funds, Pangilinan urged the government to establish a comprehensive national flood management plan. Such a plan would address the ongoing challenges presented by flooding, which has intensified in recent weeks due to strong weather patterns.
His statements were made during a time when many areas in the country have reported significant flooding, underscoring the urgency of effective flood management infrastructure and accountability regarding public expenditures.
