SIRESP president ensures ongoing scrutiny of communication network
General Paulo Viegas Nunes, heard by the inquiry committee, guarantees that SIRESP produces monthly reports on the quality of the emergency communication network.

The president of SIRESP, General Paulo Viegas Nunes, was heard this Tuesday in the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission into the business of wildfires. During his statement, Nunes addressed issues related to transparency and oversight of the company's operations, asserting that there is a 'permanent scrutiny' of the emergency communication network.
Nunes highlighted that SIRESP prepares monthly reports that are sent to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration (SGMAI). These documents aim to assess the quality of the network, allowing for constant monitoring of its performance and functioning.
In response to criticisms regarding the effectiveness of SIRESP, the president rejected claims that the network is 'always failing,' assuring that the infrastructure is functioning adequately. According to Nunes, 'the normal condition of the SIRESP network' is one of effective and continuous operation.

The general also expressed the need for a less contentious environment regarding the management of the communication system, lamenting a 'soap opera environment' surrounding the debates about SIRESP. He reiterated the importance of a proper assessment of the situation and the company's operations.
Furthermore, Nunes assured that SIRESP maintains 'maximum cooperation' with SGMAI, aiming for transparency in activities and the use of funds. He denied allegations of a high salary, stating he chose to have compensation from a different source.
The parliamentary hearing occurs following the resignation of Ricardo Carrilho, who previously held a position in the company and may serve to clarify the controversies surrounding SIRESP and its operations during critical times such as wildfires.
