Three dead from West Nile virus in the Netherlands, cases rise to eighteen
Three people have now died from the West Nile virus in the Netherlands, with eighteen reported cases of infection.

Since the last update from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) on September 3, nine new patients infected with the West Nile virus have been reported. This brings the total number of infections in the Netherlands to eighteen.
According to the RIVM's weekly figures, there has been a third death due to the virus, bringing the death toll to three. This number has increased since the report of one deceased individual last week.
Most infections have been confirmed in people who exhibited symptoms and were hospitalized. However, many individuals who come into contact with the virus experience no symptoms.

In Belgium, there have been no reported human infections so far, but cases of the West Nile virus have been detected in 25 horses and about sixty birds. This information comes from Belgian authorities.
The West Nile virus is primarily transmitted from birds to humans through mosquito bites. So far, only human infections have been recorded in the Netherlands, with no reports of animal infections.
The situation regarding the West Nile virus is being closely monitored in both the Netherlands and Belgium. Authorities remain vigilant for further developments and potential infections.
