Trenitalia France has announced the order of 19 high-speed trains from Japanese manufacturer Hitachi, for a total of around two billion euros. This initiative aims to strengthen its presence in the French market and prepare for the opening of a rail link between Paris and London set for 2029.

According to several sources, these new trains will be used not only on the future Paris-London link but also on other routes already operated by Trenitalia, such as those connecting Paris with Lyon, Marseille, and Milan.

The investment covers not only the construction of the trains but also maintenance activities and long-term technical support, as specified by a spokesperson for Trenitalia.

The ordered trains will need to be certified for operation in the Channel Tunnel and in the British market, which represents an important step for the Italian carrier in expanding its network in Europe.

The order also aims to compete with established operators like Eurostar, which services the same route. Trenitalia hopes to capture a significant market share in the high-speed travel sector between these two capitals.

The arrival of these trains is confirmed for 2029, coinciding with the expansion of high-speed rail services across the continent and an increased desire to connect major European cities.
