Trenitalia France announced on Friday the order of 19 high-speed trains from the Japanese manufacturer Hitachi for an amount of around two billion euros. These new trains are designed to operate on various European high-speed networks.

According to reported information, these trains will be primarily operated on the French market, with departures expected from Paris. The operator already runs several connections from this city, including to Lyon, Marseille, and Milan.

The order from Trenitalia comes as the company also plans to open a route between Paris and London, scheduled for 2029. This initiative aims to strengthen competition with Eurostar, which currently operates on this route.

It is anticipated that nine of the new trains will replace the trains currently in service on existing routes, although details about the nature of this operation have not been provided at this stage.

Moreover, the new trains will need to be certified to ensure they meet the specific requirements of the Channel Tunnel and the UK market before entering service. The confirmation of the Paris-London route is a key element in the development of Trenitalia's activities outside of Italy.
