Forest fires on the Greek island of Salamis have resulted in at least two fatalities. According to a fire department spokesperson on Sunday, the bodies were recovered near Peristeria Beach in the southern part of the island. Two fires broke out almost simultaneously near popular bathing spots in the south and east of Salamis.

Local authorities subsequently urged tourists and residents to evacuate. The fires pose a significant threat, particularly to those living in the affected areas.

Firefighting efforts are being complicated by strong winds that are aiding the spread of the flames. As a result, emergency services are under significant strain to bring the situation under control.

At the same time, reports are emerging of an impending fire front in Belgium moving towards Germany. The situation in other regions of Europe remains tense, including in northern Italy, where conditions near Tolmezzo are critical.

Currently, forest fires are active in several European countries, and emergency services are working intensively to combat them. The threat posed by extreme winds and dryness heightens the risk of further outbreaks.

The combination of rising temperatures and ongoing drought has led to an increased risk of fires in many regions, which will continue to challenge emergency services in the coming time.
